An iceberg as a water source in South Africa
South Africa is key to ACUSTER’s strategic objectives for the coming years. The country suffers from a particularly delicate water situation. In fact, Cape Town was about to become the first city in the world to run out of its supply, after the extreme drought that affected it in 2018.
To avoid the repetition of a serious episode such as that experienced in April of last year, it is urgent to find a solution that guarantees a short, medium and long term supply.
Among the initiatives that have been put on the table, the Southern Ice project stands out, which proposes moving an Antarctic iceberg 2,000 km to the South African coast. The water obtained from the thaw would supply 4 million people.
